M. Pia De Girolamo was born in New York City. Growing up, she spent each summer in Italy with family. As a child and teenager she studied painting privately with a local artist and continued with fine arts courses in college. She received a BA in art history from Barnard College in New York City. She received her MD degree from the University of Rochester School of Medicine, Rochester New York and trained in Internal Medicine at Temple University Hospital in Philadelphia. She completed a fellowship in Infectious Diseases at the University of Pennsylvania. She was in private practice in Infectious Diseases for twelve years.
After leaving practice she attended courses in the Continuing Education Division of the Pennsylvania Academy of the Fine Arts, Philadelphia, PA and the workshops of painter Timothy Hawkesworth at the Norristown Arts Building in Norristown, PA.
M. Pia De Girolamo’s paintings have been exhibited in juried shows at the Woodmere Art Museum in Chestnut Hill, PA and at the Pennsylvania Academy of Fine Arts, Continuing Education Division. She had a solo show for the inauguration of the new Horsham Public Library in Horsham, PA. Her work has been collected by individuals and businesses.
M. Pia De Girolamo lives in Ambler, PA with her husband and two children.
